Stephanie & Jeff : Engaged

Stephanie is yet another blast from my recent past. We were in the same sorority and although she was a few years behind me, ended up somehow making a connection. We both studied design so we had a few classes together so I saw her on campus the times I decided to show up to class, just kidding Mom! Anyway, I hadn't heard from her for at least 3 years when I saw a familiar name in my inbox. Stephanie said that she had recently gotten engaged and remembered she loved my work so she decided to look up themoderntype.com for invitation design. She was happy to find out that I was happily pursuing photography and voila! Reacquainted, just like that!

We met in Santa Monica and Steph and Jeff casually walked up and down each path, holding hands and giggling. She rarely took that smile off her face. She was just so dang happy. I'm so excited for the journey these two are about to begin. They are a ways out from their wedding date (about a year and a half) so I know exactly what they're going through. I can't wait to hear all the little details once they have them set. With Steph's design experience and the color palette she has chosen, I'm positive its going to be swoon-worthy! Thank you so much for reconnecting with me and trusting me during this special time in both your lives. xoxo

I'm totally feelin' the peacefulness of this shot.

When I got home I gasped after this shot uploaded. Same thing happened with another fabulous couple + seagull. Happy accidents I tell you.

Austin : Darling

A few weeks ago, I got together with my good friend Evette to shoot her pregnancy photos. A few weeks later, this beautiful little being was born and I had the opportunity to document these special moments in my friends life. Austin is the first baby born into my circle of friends and I'm sure he's going to have lots and lots of friends from our group very soon. I'm absolutely in love with the connection between a mother and father with their new baby. There's joy, possibility, anticipation, awe, and love all swirling around in one room. I'm thrilled to share a few of my favorites from our session.

In between...

This has already been a whirlwind of a new year and it's only January 19! Speaking of January 19, today was my beautiful Mother's birthday. Happy Birthday Mom! I hope you had a fabulous day and we're all so incredibly blessed to be around you!!

In other news, my birthday fiesta, Cinco de Me-yo, was this past weekend. All my friends in one place, playing my favorite games, laughing, eating, mustache-ing, aye-aye-ayyyyyyye-ing. It was heaven. A huge thank you goes out to everyone for joining in on my crazy birthday requests and all those who helped out and made this happen. It was my best single girl birthday yet! I heart you all! ¡Arriba!

Unfortunately, I haven't been feeling very well. Silly migraines. So I've been cooped up unless I absolutely have to get up. But here's a few previews of what's to come...

Photos, wedding updates, vendor spotlights, and stories are coming your way. Happy Monday!

Me-yo...

I started blogging eons ago. Like too long ago. Back when Livejournal was like, new and too cool for school. I won't bore you with a link to my old account, well because I don't even know if its still there. I would blog about anything and everything - what I ate that day, what Steven and I were planning to watch on tv, how many times my friends and I said 'meh' in an hour - you get the gist. I was so young and innocent and unaware that people were actually reading...and judging.

When I started this little blog, it was meant to be for wedding updates and has taken on a life of its own. Since my little wedding blog has become a business, I've tried to be pretty cautious of what I share and what I keep private. It's so weird (in a good way) running into people you haven't talked to in years and they know everything you're up to through your blog that you had no idea they were following.

After lots of nights staying up wondering 'should I share this?', I've finally decided to not take myself so serious and just have fun with the blog! Sooooooo, the moral of my story is that means more random facts and updates for you! Woohoo!

First up, my name. I know you're thinking to yourself, 'But Alicia, why on earth would I want to know about your name?' Let me tell you, it has been quite a debacle my whole entire life. So much so, that for a few years I despised my name. I know it seems simple enough, but nope, it's been butchered endlessly. My name is Alicia Landin. If in your head you pronounced that as Alisha Land-in, you said it wrong. It's Ah-lees-ya Laun-deen. I know, blame my parents. So you can imagine my pure hatred for first days of school as a kid. For the last 8 years, I go by Ala (A as in ABC, la as in fa-la-la). It's a nickname that is way easier. So if you call my voicemail or get an email signed Ala, IT'S ME!

Clearly, it's been a slow week. But tomorrow is Cinco de Me-yo, my mustache-sombrero-poncho-ranchero-mexican birthday party! And I have 3 amazing shoots in the next week. So come back for pics! And since every post deserves a pic, here's one of Steven and I doing what we do best. Have a great weekend everyone!

New age!

Happy New Year everyone! I haven't posted in a while. I've been kinda busy doing some design work for a really fun project. I had the awesome opportunity to photograph some sweet products AND design the entire brochure. So fun when you're able to have complete creative control over a project. I can't wait until its all done so I can get back to designing our wedding invitations.

I feel like there's so much to do! We kept putting a lot of little wedding details off until 2009 and well, it's 2009 now. So I've been feeling the pressure. But I'm so thrilled to finally be able to say "I'm getting married this year!!"

I will be taking today off to do nothing. Can you guess why?

Yep, I'll be eating cake, drinking wine, and celebrating the start of my 27th year of life...ALL DAY. And probably ALL WEEKEND. And actually, ALL MONTH since my birthday extravaganza isn't until next weekend. Go me!
