Reflection

It's so hard to believe that one year ago today, this happened. I remember how I felt that night like it was yesterday. All the emotions that were running through my veins. It really happened. The moment I had yearned for since the day I met him came and went and I wasn't even allowed to freeze the moment. It all happened so fast and I had this beautiful piece of jewelry sparkling on my left hand to prove it. But more than that, I had the promise of commitment from another human being - someone who was choosing to spend the rest of his life with me.

I thank God every day for sending me someone like this man. Someone who gets me. Someone who believes in me. Someone who makes me laugh. Someone who gives me butterflies over and over again. Someone who pushes me towards my passions when I don't feel I deserve to pursue them.

Don't get me wrong, he/we are by no means perfect but together - as a couple - we just fit. We both share a love for: college football, silly cats, exploring our artistic sides, pool and listening to our favorite music "on 30" just for fun. According to my mom, we're nerds who act like no one else is in the room when we're together. I guess that's what happens when you're still in love. ;)

To my beautiful Steven: thank you for pouring your heart into mine. Thank you for being my best friend and my rock. I'm not sure where I'd be without you but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be this great. Every day you continue to amaze me and I can’t help but think how blessed I am to have you in my life. I know things have been so crazy lately, but I can’t imagine going through this thing called life without you. It’s so amazing how when we’re together, the whole world fades away and we get lost in happiness. That’s what keeps me going. You keep me going. Your face, your heart, your dedication, your commitment, your smile. You are the most beautiful human being I’ve ever met. The thought of us spending the ups and downs of life together gets me excited because I know God chose us for one another and wouldn’t put us through anything he thought we couldn’t handle. Together, we’re strong, and balance each other out. And ultimately, we are happy people. We are a great pair. I am so glad to have the greatest gift on this earth - you. I look forward to the day that I get to call you my husband. xoxo

And just for fun, since I try to include an image with every post, here are a few spreads from a book I designed and bound for him as an anniversary gift in no particular order. The first one makes me laugh because I know it creeps people out. Anyway, he has the book at his casa so I'll be sure to get my hands on it to take pictures to show you someday soon.

Elsy & Jose : Married

The day couldn't have been more beautiful this past Saturday as Elsy and Jose vowed their lives to one another. Their families hired a traditional photographer but Elsy decided that she wanted a little bit of style and photojournalism as well. I wasn't available for her entire wedding so the idea fit perfectly with both our schedules. We had about 30 minutes to "play", as I like to call it, before they had to head to their reception but I think it was more than enough time for Elsy and Jose to rock it.

Thank you both for allowing me some time to get to know you and witness your love on your wedding day. I had such a good time with you both and I wish you nothing but happiness in the future. Hope you're having a great time in Hawaii!

Elsy's dress was gorgeous and fit her like a glove with no alterations. A perfect fit!

A huge shoutout to the bridesmaids who stood behind me and made us all laugh as we were shooting. Holler!

On getting a check : My Wedding

So I did it. Finally. After 3 long months of what feels like a zillion consultations, I went with my gut. I went with the one I adored since I got engaged. Since before I even envisioned what my wedding day would look like. Hadn't met her or even spoken to her. But by pictures of her work alone, I was sold. When my checklist on the knot screamed at me that I was supposed to be looking/hiring florists, I finally came around to doing some research and pricing.

Many people think having a design background would make planning my wedding easy but I strongly disagree. I think it makes things that much harder because my mind has so many ideas flowing through that I'm finding it difficult to edit them down to something cohesive and beautiful. When I thought of florals at my wedding, I was having an exceptionally hard time going back and forth as to what I wanted. I decided early on that flowers were something I was willing to give up control over and I wanted to put that aspect into the hands of a professional that I felt could take the few things I say, and run with it.

After all the emails, phone calls, and consultations, I kept coming back to the same name. Any time I sent over any little boberia (aka nonsense) she quickly had an enthusiastic response and for me, that's fantastic since I like my vendors to have excellent communication. Makes me feel like I'm their only client. I feel it adds to the whole experience. So I finally checked one of the bigger items off my list yesterday and went with my gut.

I cannot wait to work with Kristin and see how she transforms the little direction I gave her and take it to a whole new level. I wholeheartedly believe that she's going to do a fabulous job! Check some of her work out for yourself.

Elsy & Jose : Engaged

I was looking forward to this day for a while. We had to reschedule this shoot twice in the last month so the anticipation to meet these two was building up. We met for the first time at the Metrolink station. I had heard a lot about Elsy and Jose but had never actually talked to either of them. When I heard that Elsy thought we should take the train to Union Station to avoid any weekday traffic I knew this was going to be good. I had never been on the metrolink and was uber excited for the experience. Little did I know that two days later this would happen, so I guess I will never be riding it again.

Elsy and Jose are such a sweet couple, the type that don't need to talk much for you to see their love for one another. I really enjoyed meeting them and although we had a lot less time to shoot, I think they did such an awesome job in front of the camera. They are getting married this Saturday and I cannot wait to share in their day. Thank you Elsy and Jose for letting me document your story AND for the awesome taquito dinner at Olvera Street! A special thanks goes out to Bea for assisting me!

Cheers!

So as some of you know, I spend my days dressed as a graphic designer. It's actually what led me into the world of photography. While in college, I started using the camera to photograph different scenes, people and textures to use in my designs because I was tired of going through stock photography never finding anything that suited my style. From there, things just kinda happened. The point of this post though, is to jump up and down because the project I've been working on tirelessly at my day job was finally approved to go live!! @#$%^&*! I don't have the rights to post it here because you know, the project was through the company I work for. But let's just say the promotional website was for a large empire, the name rhymes with Schmamerican Schmexpress!!

I think it's time now for a few margaritas! And since its always fun to include a picture for your viewing pleasure, here's a little ditty that made me laugh when I saw it since our wedding is on May 23, 2009.

Lisa & Scott : Whenever

I can't share too much of this couples story. Mainly because Lisa is too scared of the interwebz. Her face being out there for all to see is still quite unnerving for her. I did get permission to post this one picture from yesterday's session. This is one of the most amazing women I know - three kids, a full-time job, a kick-ass figure, sweet AND she does it all happily. Oh, and Scott's not too bad either. Actually, he won the award for best behavior at this session!

Aley : Senior

I photographed Aley last week alongside my niece Amber. Again, they were so much fun to be around. Aley is always smiling and making jokes. I don't think I've ever seen the girl without that big smile plastered on her face. Except of course, for the pictures I told her to give me the ferocious look. But even then, you could still see her smile shine through. Thanks Aley for letting me share an afternoon with you. P.S. Amber, Lisa and I all want that dress!

Nuevo.

Yay! I'm so excited to announce that I have a new blog domain: www.themoderntypeblog.com! It's not that big of a deal to most people but it is to me since it was almost rocket science for someone not technically savvy to figure out. So update your google readers and/or your bookmarks to lock this baby in. Same blog, new name. Special thanks to my friend Jordi for getting everything situated for me. Stay tuned because I have a bunch of new shoots to post very soon.
